George Mason University's team of engineering students won the title of #1 Stiffest Steel Bridge in the United Sates. First Place in Stiffness at the National Competition in Kansas City, Mo.
Colleges and universities from all fifty states competed on Saturday, May 23 having won their regional competitions to earn a spot at Nationals. Weight of bridge and construction time were factors, but the Mason team won the most important category in terms of design. Their bridge had an average deflection of only 0.176" after 2000 lbs load.
