Mason had a strong showing at the 98th Annual Meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies of Science and Engineering. Students and faculty from across Mason’s campuses presented their work in lectern sessions, on panels, and as posters.
The Transportation at Mason reception, in its third year, brought together Mason alumni, faculty, students along with our many friends in government, industry, and other academic institutions from across the globe.
"The Transportation Research Board is an enormous asset to the global transportation community," says Professor Elise Miller-Hooks, who has served as the chair of the transportation network modeling committee for six years. "Its annual meeting has in some years brought together as many as 13,700 experts from academia, government, industry, and nonprofits from across the globe."
By convening the world’s authorities in this area, its policy studies, and funded research, TRB has been influential in tackling the many complex issues, such as congestion, pollution, and safety, that plague our transportation systems, says Miller-Hooks, the Bill and Eleanor Hazel Chair in Infrastructure Engineering.
During her time as committee chair, Miller-Hooks initiated an editorial board to handle her committee’s annual 150 to 250 papers considered for publication or presentation, a best paper award, a transformative research award, an executive committee, a new (sixth) subcommittee on emerging technologies in network modeling, and data repositories.
"It is my privilege to be a part of the TRB community, and I am excited to be part of its 100th gathering in 2021," she says.
