Biography

Gail Therrien embraces the motto "Inspiring Leaders in Technology and Engineering," aiming to equip her students at George Mason University with the skills and confidence necessary to thrive as active members of any Information Technology team. Within the Capstone Program, she emphasizes:

  1. Honing each student's technical abilities to enable them to be effective technical contributors.
  2. Encouraging students to discover their voice and confidently articulate their thoughts on research, evaluation, design, and the development of technical solutions.
  3. Cultivating "big picture" thinking by teaching students to view systems as components of larger ecosystems.
  4. Enhancing students' professional skills and collaborative abilities to ensure success in team environments.

Among Therrien's most esteemed professional achievements are:

  1. Being a recipient of the Woodie Flowers Award.
  2. Receiving the Lifetime Woman in Technology Award.
  3. Earning numerous teaching accolades.

She is also dedicated to curriculum development and advancing Information Technology educational programs. Notably, she pioneered the first IT dual enrollment course and designed a program that allows high school students to earn an Associate of Science in Information Technology (AS-IT) degree.
